Considering a cesarean delivery?

What Is a Cesarean Section? Indications, Benefits, and Risks

A Cesarean section (C-section) is a surgical procedure used to deliver a baby through an incision in the abdomen and uterus. While vaginal birth is the preferred method in most cases, a C-section may be necessary for the safety of the mother and baby.

Indications for a C-Section:
✔️ Previous C-Section or Uterine Surgery – To prevent complications from a prior incision.
✔️ Fetal Distress – When the baby’s heart rate indicates potential danger.
✔️ Breech or Transverse Position – When the baby isn’t positioned for a safe vaginal birth.
✔️ Placenta Previa – When the placenta covers the cervix.
✔️ Multiple Pregnancies – Especially if twins or more are not positioned for vaginal delivery.
✔️ Failure to Progress in Labor – When contractions aren’t leading to a safe delivery.
✔️ Herpes Outbreak in the third trimester
✔️ Large Baby that can cause shoulder dystocia (or difficulty in delivery of the fetal body that can lead to complications such as brachial plexus or nerve injury and perineal trauma to the mother)
✔️ Maternal contraindications - heart disease that prevents mother from actively pushing in labor.
✔️Maternal Decision - Mom decides that she does NOT want to push a baby and prefers to schedule a cesarean delivery by choice.

Benefits of a C-Section:
✅ Can be lifesaving for both mother and baby in high-risk situations.
✅ Reduces the risk of birth trauma in certain cases.
✅ Prevents complications from difficult vaginal deliveries.

Rare Risks & Complications:
⚠️ Infection or bleeding at the incision site.
⚠️ Longer recovery time compared to vaginal birth.
⚠️ Possible complications in future pregnancies, such as placenta accreta.

At my practice, I provide expert, compassionate care for both scheduled and emergency C-sections. My only concern is to ensure that both mom and baby are safely bonding after their delivery without complications or issues.
